Answers
1. I am having problems saving pets, owners, vets or policies.
Edit forms for pets, owners, vets and insurance policies implement a tabbed interface to logically separate related form fields. If you get an error when trying to save your form data, please check each tab for an error that may not be on the currently selected tab. Most likely you forgot to enter a required field such as a phone number.
2. Where is the “menu” button?
When you first start using Critters, you may encounter messages telling you to press the “menu” button to add a pet, vet, owner or insurance policy. The “menu” button is not part of the application, it refers to the “menu” button that is part of your phone. It is usually represented by four horizontal lines and is located at the bottom of the phone. This is button you should press when you are prompted to press “menu”.
3. Can I copy my pet’s data to another Android phone?
You can copy your pet’s database to another Android phone provided both phones are running the same version of Critters and by following these instructions:
- Connect the Android phone that currently contains your pet’s data to your computer using the microUSB to USB cable.
- If you are using a PC, you will see an installation bubble pop up in the bottom right of your screen. Wait for the computer to successfully complete installation.
- The critical step: On your Android phone, pull down the notification window (aka ‘window shade’) and tap USB connected.
- A notification window will appear. Tap Mount. Your phone will enter USB storage mode.
- Find the removable storage drive. On a PC, navigate to My Computer and look for a new removable storage drive. On a Mac, the drive will appear on your desktop.
- Copy the file named “critters.db” located in /sdcard/data/com.zunisoft.critters/databases to your desktop.
- In your phone’s notification window, tap Turn off USB storage.
- Unplug your phone.
- Install and setup Critters on the phone that is the destination for your pet’s data.
- Connect the destination phone to your PC or Mac as described above.
- Drag the file named “critters.db” on your desktop to /sdcard/data/com.zunisoft.critters/databases on your phone overwriting the existing database file.
- In your phone’s notification window, tap Turn off USB storage.
- Unplug your phone and you are all set.
4. Why can’t I secure my pet’s information with a password?
Android provides a top level mechanism for securing the whole phone. Look under “Settings” then “Location and Security” for options.
5. Why can’t I specifically select pounds or kilograms for my pet’s weight?
This is purely by design. Past experience with other systems that track height and weight show that users can mix measurements despite having a specific unit label. It is left to the user to decide which to use and be consistent with their choice.
If enough users ask, the weight label may be selected based on locale. U.S. users will use pounds with all others set to kilograms. If you would like to see this option, send an email using the link under Critters on the Android Market.
6. Why can’t I select or save high resolution photos from the gallery application?
Currently there is a bug that prevents certain high resolution photos from being selected from the Android gallery application. A fix is being worked on to correct this problem.
Workaround: Use lower resolution photos that were taken using the phone’s built in camera.
